DPHT SHOWCASE AND PONY SALE, SUNDAY 8th JULY 2012

SHOWCASE AND PONY SALE, SUNDAY 8th JULY

11AM to 3PM

In partnership with some of Dartmoor’s most respected Pony Keepers, the Dartmoor Pony Heritage Trust is organising a Showcase Day and Private Sale of approx. 30 Dartmoor Ponies, on Sunday 8th July at the Trust’s Centre at Parke, Bovey Tracey.

Says Dru Butterfield of the DPHT:  “This Sale is for quality animals produced by farmers with passion, integrity and commitment, to show the public the true value and worth, of the Dartmoor breed. It will be a superb Showcase for ponies bred on Dartmoor.”

Selected Dartmoor Pony Keepers have been invited to put forward ponies, from unbroken, lightly handled yearlings, to adult ponies broken to ride and drive.  Full details of each animal, its history and herd, will be provided and all will have been ‘started’. Each will have a basic level of handling to enable them to go on to become established family ponies for children and light adults, for riding and driving, or as conservation grazers.

Owners will be present to talk to potential buyers, and advice on pony care, management, training and general responsibilities of ownership, will be available. A variety of equine demonstrations will take place throughout the day, plus stalls, a pony obstacle race, ponies working in harness and locally produced refreshments will be provided.  Full details of the information and education work carried out by the DPHT will also be on display; meet our trainers, volunteers and education team to find out more.

The Sale is for Heritage, Supplementary Register and Pedigree Dartmoor ponies, all meeting recognised breed standards and inspected by Dartmoor Pony Society A Panel Judges.  Each pony’s potential and suitability, as well as its herd background, will be documented.  All ponies will be microchipped and passported.

THE PONY SHOWCASE AND SALE IS OPEN TO ALL MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC, WHETHER THEY ARE INTERESTED IN BUYING, OR SIMPLY KEEN TO FIND OUT MORE ABOUT THE TRUE WORTH OF THE DARTMOOR PONY.

Those interested can find out more by contacting Dru Butterfield on: 01626 833234 or via the website, www.dpht.co.uk

Details of the ponies for sale will be available from 20 June 2012.

We will be attending this event with some of our herd – last year it was a fantastic day out for all members of the family, even if your not interested in purchasing a pony.

Spring 2012

Well we’ve been pretty busy over the last few months. Our Farmhouse B&B is busy with kayakers and walkers and we’re looking forward to the decoraters coming back to do the rest of the painting at the back of the house – going to look very smart.

We’ve had a number of good reviews recently and taking advantage of advertising in both Dartmoor Magazine and Active Dartmoor Magazine. We’re still very pleased with Countryfile Magazine’s Top Ten Farmstays in the UK and its already bringing us new guests.

The Dartmoor ponies on the farm have moved fields and now sharing with another pony – Brimpts Annie who was once one of the Dartmoor Pony Heritage Trust ponies at Brimpts Farm used for the education projects (now moved to Parke, Bovey Tracey). She is now a much loved pet and companion pony, who is frequently on the slightly overweight side, despite several attempts to restrict her grazing and give her plenty of ridden exercise. It does not help that Annie knows how to get out of any situation – whether that means jumping over 4ft gates and/or stable doors, or rolling until the grazing muzzle falls off. We think she’s just going to be one of those ponies who provides enterainment to all that she meets – and be a firm favourite for life. One Dartmoor pony we are never selling as a result – sorry!

We’re hoping she doesn’t teach the youngsters the tricks of the trade, so far so good! We’ve also got a couple of ponies going over the the Dartmoor Pony Heritage Trust in a few weeks for a bit of additional handling which will give them a bit of experience of life in general ready for new homes.

We’re also doing a fair amount with social media – Follow us on Twitter @Lowertown Farm and on Facebook ‘Lowertown Farm B&B and Livery Yard’

Lowertown Farm in the Papers!

In the last two months we have been mentioned in National Publications - please see the page ‘Lowertown Farm in the Press’ for more information on what the media had to say about our B&B on Dartmoor.
